Terms of Service
Last updated: September 24, 2026By downloading, installing, or using Fud AI ("the app"), on either iOS or Android, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. Description of Service
Fud AI is a free, open-source nutrition and fitness tracking application available on iOS and Android. It uses AI to estimate the nutritional content of food from one or more camera or photo-library images analyzed together, iOS Share Extension images, optional meal notes, text descriptions, voice input, iOS Siri Shortcuts / App Intents, and manual entry. It can also look up packaged foods by barcode using Open Food Facts when public product nutrition is available, reuse a nutrition label you scanned earlier for the same barcode, and, only if you add your own free USDA FoodData Central API key, fall back to USDA FoodData Central branded foods. It includes smart serving units, editable nutrition review, meal what-if previews, food log sorting and customizable meal-time boundaries, customizable Home nutrient cards, decimal nutrient totals, six activity levels, optional nutrient goals, Energy Burn Goals, Adaptive Goals, weight and optional body-fat tracking, optional local water tracking, optional local intermittent-fasting tracking with persistent timers and editable history, a workout diary/logger with sets, reps, weight, RPE, custom exercises, set autofill, Walk/Run quick log, and calculated burn history, an optional 18+ Weekly Challenge using aggregate activity/nutrition/consistency/hydration metrics, an 873-exercise reference library, AI Coach access to relevant nutrition, explicitly logged fasting, and workout history, diary export and meal-link sharing, iOS Home/Lock Screen and Android Glance widgets, Apple Watch support on iOS, theme personalization, app-update checks, optional Apple Health / Health Connect integration (including daily step reads for Home and optional Apple Watch workout import on iOS), optional iCloud / Google Drive backup, and localization in 18 languages on iOS and Android. The app uses Bring Your Own Key access for 13 AI providers, six speech-to-text options, and Apple Intelligence on supported iPhones as a final on-device fallback for eligible food-description analysis. On iOS and Android, optional Tip Jar purchases and optional Plus/Pro hosted AI subscriptions with credit packs are available through the App Store or Google Play.
2. AI-Powered Estimates
Nutritional information, Siri food-log estimates, meal what-if suggestions, optional nutrient-goal suggestions, energy-burn goals, adaptive calorie corrections, weight forecasts, calculated workout burns, Weekly Challenge activity calories/points/ranks, and Coach responses provided by Fud AI are estimated, not exact. AI-powered estimates are generated by your chosen AI provider or by Apple Intelligence on supported iPhones. Apple Intelligence can be the final on-device fallback for eligible food descriptions, and on iOS 27 it can analyze food photos on-device when you select it. If that photo analysis fails, the app can continue with your image fallback provider. Adaptive Goals, workout-burn estimates, and challenge aggregates use local calculations from the data you enter or authorize. These estimates should be used as general guidance only. Fud AI is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. Water tracking records amounts you enter against the goal you choose; it does not assess hydration or recommend a medically appropriate intake. Fasting tracking records only the sessions and goal you choose; it does not decide whether fasting is safe, recommend a fasting duration, or infer a fast from skipped meal logs. Always consult a healthcare professional before fasting or making dietary, hydration, exercise, or weight-related decisions, especially if you are pregnant, under 18, have diabetes, take medication, or have a history of disordered eating. The daily calorie target, BMR, TDEE, and macro split shown in the app are computed from published equations. Optional detailed goals remain separate from the calorie/protein/carbs/fat calculator. Full citations and source links are available in-app under Settings → Goals & Nutrition → Calculation Methods. Predictive equations and exercise-energy estimates carry inherent error and should not replace personalized clinical assessment.
3. AI Coach Chat Disclaimer
The AI Coach tab is a conversational assistant that can retrieve relevant ranges of your profile, goals, weight, body fat, food log, explicitly logged fasting sessions, workout plans, preferences, completed sessions, and logged sets when needed to answer your request. Coach never treats the absence of food logs as proof of fasting. Its replies are generated by the third-party AI provider you select and may be inaccurate, biased, or outdated. Coach is not a substitute for advice from a dietitian, doctor, trainer, physiotherapist, or other qualified professional. Do not rely on Coach for decisions about fasting, medical conditions, injuries, eating disorders, pregnancy, or any other health matter that warrants professional guidance.
4. AI Access and API Keys
- Bring Your Own Key remains fully free forever: you are responsible for obtaining and managing your own API keys from your chosen AI and speech-to-text providers.
- API keys are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted to us — in iOS Keychain on iOS, in
EncryptedSharedPreferencesusing AES-256 (Android Keystore-backed) on Android. - Usage, rate limits, and billing for BYOK AI/STT requests are between you and the provider you chose.
- Optional Plus/Pro hosted AI (iOS and Android) routes eligible requests through Fud AI's proxy under the plan and credit limits described in-app; there is no free hosted quota. Cancel or manage subscriptions in your Apple ID settings on iOS or in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions on Android — deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- On supported iPhones, Apple Intelligence may process text, voice-transcribed, and Siri food descriptions on-device only as the final fallback after BYOK provider/fallback attempts fail. On iOS 27, food photos you select for Apple Intelligence are also processed on-device.
5. Provider Costs
Any usage costs for third-party AI or speech-to-text providers are handled directly by the provider account you configure. Free tiers, credits, pricing, and rate limits are controlled by those providers and may change over time.
6. Third-Party Providers
When you use the app with an AI or STT provider, your requests (including one or more food photos captured or selected together, food photos shared through the iOS Share Extension, meal notes, Siri food descriptions, voice audio, speech-language hints, meal what-if prompts, optional nutrient-goal estimation prompts, Coach messages, requested Coach context such as explicitly logged fasting sessions, and any images attached to Coach) are sent for processing. In BYOK mode, requests go directly from your device to the provider you selected. In optional Hosted AI mode (iOS and Android), requests go to Fud AI's proxy and then to Fud-operated upstream providers under your Plus/Pro plan and credit balance. On supported iPhones, Apple Intelligence may process text, voice-transcribed, and Siri food descriptions on-device as the final fallback after BYOK provider/fallback attempts fail, and on iOS 27 it may analyze selected food photos on-device; if photo analysis fails, the configured image fallback is used. Photo analysis through a cloud provider, Coach, and speech transcription continue using the configured AI access path. When you scan a barcode, the barcode value is sent to Open Food Facts for product lookup; only if you added your own USDA FoodData Central API key and no other source has the product, it is also sent to USDA FoodData Central. Each provider has its own terms and privacy policy that govern how it handles data. You are responsible for reviewing and accepting those terms. We do not control, endorse, or make representations about third-party providers or public product databases.
Tips, hosted plans & legacy Premium
Tips: The iOS and Android apps offer optional consumable Tip Jar purchases (from $0.99 to $9.99, subject to App Store or Google Play pricing and taxes). Tips are voluntary support for development — they unlock no features and are consumed on purchase. Payment, billing, and refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their store terms.
Hosted AI (Plus/Pro): Optional subscriptions and credit packs, on iOS through the App Store and on Android through Google Play, provide a no-key hosted path with a daily action pool and credit bank. Credits are used after the daily pool and only while a plan is active. Free forever users keep full app access via Bring Your Own Key; hosted access is convenience only and is not required. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in your store account. Quotas, restores, and billing are governed by Apple or Google and the in-app plan terms. Purchases are tied to your store account, so a plan bought on iOS does not unlock Android and vice versa.
Legacy Premium: Earlier iOS versions offered a different optional Fud AI Premium subscription for no-key hosted AI access. That Premium product has been discontinued and is no longer offered. If you still have an active Premium subscription from an earlier version, manage or cancel it from your Apple ID subscription settings — deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Today's Plus/Pro products are separate.
Auto-routed providers (OpenRouter openrouter/free): The free-tier OpenRouter model auto-selects an available upstream provider for each request, and that pool can change over time. By selecting openrouter/free you accept that the upstream provider chosen by OpenRouter is outside our control and may change without notice. If you require a fixed upstream, select a specific model ID instead of the auto-routed option.
Barcode lookup: Barcode results depend on Open Food Facts coverage and data quality and, if you added a USDA FoodData Central key, on that database's branded-food coverage. If a product is missing or has incomplete nutrition, Fud AI may not be able to create an entry from the barcode; you can instead photograph the product or packaging using Camera or Photos.
Exports and shared meal links: You control where locally generated diary exports are saved or sent. A shared meal link contains the meal names, nutrition, serving details, and emoji in the URL itself so a recipient can preview and import the meal. Anyone with access to the link may read that information. You are responsible for choosing recipients and for avoiding public sharing of information you consider sensitive. Imported meal information remains an estimate and should be reviewed before logging.
Local data and platform backups: The core tracker has no general Fud AI account or cloud-sync service. Food, water, fasting, and workout records are stored locally unless a specific integration, sharing action, or optional Weekly Challenge aggregate described in the Privacy Policy applies. Apple and Android may include eligible app data and, for encrypted iOS backups, Keychain items in operating-system backups or device transfers according to your platform settings. Delete All Data clears the current installation but does not modify an older backup already controlled by Apple or Google.
Optional Weekly Challenge and Community Rules
The Weekly Challenge is voluntary and available only if you confirm you are at least 18, accept the current community rules, and create a pseudonymous participant profile. There is no general Fud AI account: your device receives a one-time credential used to update or delete the challenge profile and to view the authenticated leaderboard. Keep that credential secure. Other enrolled participants can see your chosen display name, stable participant ID, optional X or Instagram handle, weekly aggregates, and rank. Do not add a social handle unless you are comfortable being identified or contacted on that third-party service.
You must use a name and social handle you have the right to use. Do not impersonate Fud AI staff or another person; post hateful, threatening, sexually explicit, harassing, or discriminatory names; advertise, spam, evade filtering, manipulate the service, automate abusive traffic, submit knowingly false metrics, or report another participant maliciously. Links and email addresses are not allowed in display names. You may report suspected impersonation, inappropriate names, spam, unsafe content, or other rule violations. We may review reports and remove content or participation to protect users or the service, but we do not promise continuous monitoring or a particular moderation outcome.
Challenge scores are motivational estimates, not verified athletic results, medical measurements, gambling, or a promise of prizes. Device algorithms, integrations, manual inputs, and deliberate manipulation can make scores inaccurate; do not use rankings to make health judgments or harass another participant. Authenticated Leave Challenge and Delete All Data request remote deletion when reachable. Retention limits, credential-loss cleanup, report handling, and the exact aggregate fields are stated in the Privacy Policy.
7. Open Source
Fud AI is open source under the MIT License. You may use, modify, and distribute the source code in accordance with the license terms. The full source — for both iOS (SwiftUI) and Android (Kotlin + Jetpack Compose), including every network call the app makes — is at github.com/apoorvdarshan/fud-ai.
8. Health Disclaimer
Fud AI is a nutrition and fitness tracking tool, not a medical application. The app does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Nutritional estimates, BMR/TDEE values, macro targets, weight forecasts, and calculated workout burns are approximations and may not be accurate for all individuals. Fasting timers and goals are user-directed recordkeeping features, not a recommendation or safety assessment. Users with medical conditions, eating disorders, injuries, or specific dietary, fasting, or exercise needs should consult qualified professionals. Workout plans, logged RPE, calculated burns, fasting records, and the built-in exercise library are general tracking/reference features, not personalized training or medical advice.
9. Apple Health & Health Connect Integration
By enabling Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android) integration, you authorize the app to read and write health data as described in our Privacy Policy. Written data includes body measurements, per-meal nutrition, and calculated workout active calories; workout plans, individual set details, water history, and fasting sessions remain local and are not written to either health store in this version. The app can read authorized body measurements back into your profile and Progress chart, and may read daily step counts for display on Home. If you enable Energy Burn Goals, it may also read active and total energy burned to estimate calorie targets while keeping macros editable. On iOS, authorized Apple Watch / iPhone workouts can import as read-only history. Where supported, Fud AI can restore records it previously wrote using its own record tags; local-only fasting history requires an eligible OS backup/device transfer to survive reinstall. You can review or revoke permissions through Manage Access in the app's Health settings or the platform's health settings. Delete All Data only wipes local storage — Apple Health / Health Connect samples persist unless you remove them separately.
10. Limitation of Liability
The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer shall not be liable for any damages — direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive — arising from your use of the app, including any health-related decisions made based on the app's output.
11. Availability
The app requires an internet connection for hosted AI food analysis, barcode lookup, Coach chat, remote speech-to-text, Android native speech fallback when offline language support is unavailable, app-update checks, and any optional Weekly Challenge join, update, leaderboard, report, or deletion request. Fully offline AI operation is possible only when you use Ollama with a reachable local endpoint or Apple Intelligence on supported iPhones for eligible food descriptions and, on iOS 27, for food photos when you select it; Native iOS / Android speech can work offline where the selected language is installed on-device. Offline functionality otherwise includes viewing and editing local nutrition, fasting, and workout logs, running the fasting timer, manual entry, water tracking, local reminders and calculations, diary export, browsing the workout library, reading existing Apple Health / Health Connect samples, and re-logging Saved Meals. Fasting and other local notifications are scheduled through the operating system and may be delayed or dropped by device settings; the elapsed fasting time is still derived from the saved start time when the app opens. Some Android OEM skins aggressively limit background alarms; the app exposes a Battery Optimization shortcut in Settings to improve scheduled-reminder reliability.
12. Modifications
We may update these terms at any time as the app evolves. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
